Thousands of people each year take the plunge and move to another country or continent in search of their dream job or lifestyle. But taking the decision to work abroad can be both an exciting and a daunting step, especially if it is to a country you have never been before.

David Howell, group chief executive of Guardian Wealth Management, says that opportunities for people to work abroad have opened up considerably in recent years. For example, Qatar’s winning bid for the World Cup in 2022 will require a massive influx of professional and skilled workers into the country to develop the infrastructure and stadiums needed to host the competition.
